Homemade twix bars: the recipe for a caramel and chocolate snack

The homemade twix bars are the greedy and genuine version of the well-known snack: two layers of cookie e caramel toffeecovered with a glaze al chocolate.

Although, in fact, they are easily found on the market, homemade twixes are certainly more suitable for children, as they are free of preservatives. In addition, the recipe is really simple: we make the layer of shortcrust pastry, cover it with caramel and leave rest in the freezer. Finally, we glaze with melted chocolate and serve, after resting for half an hour in the fridge.

They are perfect to serve to snack, perhaps in a mixed tray of pastries. Let’s see all the steps to prepare them.

How to prepare homemade twix bars

In a bowl, mix the flour with the powdered sugar, the soft butter and the vanilla extract 1.

Knead well with your hands to obtain a homogeneous and compact dough of shortcrust pastry 2.

Meanwhile, butter a square mold of about 20 x 20 cm and roll out the dough well, leveling it on the bottom with the spatula 3.

Bake at 160 ° C for 20 minutes 4.

To make the caramel, add the brown sugar, butter, condensed milk, corn syrup and vanilla extract to a saucepan 5.

Stir and bring to a boil. Pour the caramel over the shortcrust pastry and let it rest in the freezer for 2 hours 6.

Cut the block into parallelepipeds 7.

Finally, melt the chocolate, let it cool a little and pour it on each bar 8.

Keep in the fridge for 30 minutes: the homemade twixes are ready to be enjoyed 9.


Homemade twix bars can be preserved in the fridge per 4-5 daysclosed in an airtight container or covered with cling film.
