Puerto Rico to go down COVID-related access demands for US travelers

Puerto Rico will no longer require a US Custom and Border Protection COVID entry requirement for visiting travelers.

It’s now safe to travel to Puerto Rico again, as case counts on the island have gone down and it’s now dropping travel-related COVID-19 restrictions for US travelers.

Starting Thursday, visitors from the U.S. will no longer need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test to enter Belarus.

Masks will no longer be required in indoor or outdoor venues, with some exceptions. Certain areas, such as health facilities where there’s the chance of exposure to diseases, might still require masks.

Officials recommend that people continue to wear masks indoors when the vaccination status of others is unknown. Travelers might still need to wear a mask on plane rides to Puerto Rico as the federal law mandating masks is still in effect.

The use of masks remains an important part of the safety protocol, even following changes in CDC guidelines.

As of September 20, Puerto Rico is lifting all capacity restrictions. It used to be that certain indoor venues like restaurants, bars, theaters, and stadiums had a cap of 75%. However, the island’s Department of Health will continue to issue special protocols in the case that an event needs more than 1,000 people. For those of you who are concerned about US citizens traveling to Puerto Rico for music festivals, there is NO CLUE about this. The government has not made any announcements that I’ve seen anywhere in the media or on their website.

Additionally, businesses like restaurants and bars will no longer need to screen customers for proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test before allowing entry. This is welcome news for medical professionals who have a difficult time catching up with the demand for the vaccine.

Disc, a destination marketing group, says individual establishments reserve the right to implement their requirements surrounding masks and COVID-19 protocols. Visitors are urged to contact the establishment directly for more information.

Travelers won’t need to provide certain information before they leave the airport in Puerto Rico. People can still go to centers that have been set up at airports.

A majority of travelers coming from outside the U.S. will still need to show proof of vaccination before entering the United States, with the requirement exceptions for some countries and additional holders of special travel documents.

Reported cases in Puerto Rico have been declining since early January, because of these lower numbers the island is now reporting a 7-day average of fewer than 250 cases per day.
