Specialties of Chinese origin, tofu (literally “boneless meat”) resembles cream cheese and is made by coagulating a milky liquid made from yellow soybeans. Rich in protein and low in fats and carbohydrates, it is a very valid alternative to meat for vegetarians, vegans or for those who simply want to reduce their consumption.

It comes in the form of a loaf and has a nice taste neutral and delicate (it is also possible to find flavored and smoked variants at the refrigerated counter of the supermarket); due to this innate characteristic, it is best not to consume it as it is, but to combine it with ingredients, spices and flavorings that give it taste and character.

How to prepare tofu pizzaiola

Chop the onion and garlic 1.

Pour a drizzle of oil in a frying pan 2.

Add minced garlic, onion and red pepper 3.

Simmer for a few minutes and, if necessary, add a drop of hot water 4.

Using a sharp knife, slice the tofu 5.

Cut three slices from each loaf about 5mm thick 6.
