At 729 feet, Amicalola Falls is the tallest flowing waterfall in Georgia. One of the most visited state parks in Georgia is Amicalola Falls State Park for its breathtaking beauty and hiking trails.
This stunning state park is located in northern Georgia’s southern Appalachian Mountains, in the verdant, waterfall-filled Chattahoochee National Forest. It’s one of the most well-known and most-visited state parks in Georgia, and with good reason.
To get the best perspective of the raging water, guests have a variety of options to choose from, from easy access to a difficult path with ladders. The park’s Canyon Climbers Club is open to anyone trying the latter.
The southern terminus of the 2,175-mile Appalachian Trail, Springer Mountain, is accessed from the park via an 8.5-mile trail. There are many other trails that offer shorter day hikes. Amicalola Falls State Park is open daily during the day, year-round.
A $5 GA State Park Pass is required for all cars entering Amicalola State Park. A $50 annual park pass is available at the lodge or visitor center and can save money for frequent park visitors. The passes are valid for one year from the date of purchase.

Getting to Amicalola Falls
The closest developed road link to the southern end of the Appalachian Trail is at this magnificent waterfall, located 7.5 miles from Springer Mountain. From the top of this cascade, the AT Approach Trail leads to the summit of Springer Mountain.
The Appalachian Trail’s 2,000+ mile, epic journey north toward Maine begins in Springer, where hundreds of AT-Thru hikers make the trek each year. The Hike Inn Trail is another well-traveled trail that descends from the top of this massive waterfall. The Len Foote Hike Inn is a wilderness inn that can only be reached via a hike, and this trail winds through a beautiful forest to get there.
To see the best views in the park, take a hike around the Amicalola Falls Loop Trail. The journey begins under a stone arch honoring the Appalachian Trail, ascends to a ridge with breathtaking vistas, and then descends a stairway flanked by a massive, cascading waterfall.
From the park entrance you can climb 604 steps to our observation deck and stop halfway there. You are then free to descend the steps or follow our East Ridge Route, which is just over two miles long, for a leisurely stroll through the woods.

Countless adventures await as you enter the 829-acre park! The stunning views and extensive range of activities suitable for large groups are a major draw for locals and tourists alike.
The season affects the type of species that are found in Amicalola Falls State Park. Forest creatures include deer, raccoons, possums, owls, hawks, snakes, black bears and squirrels to name a few.
Visitors used to be able to visit Amicalola Deer Park after admiring the magnificence of Amicalola Falls and the park. This place was comfortable for gatherings of all ages. Before the closure, it was a truly exceptional opportunity to get up close and personal with North Georgia’s native species.
